VCIA celebrates Chicago roadshow | Captive International

The recent Vermont Captive Insurance Association (VCIA) roadshow in Chicago has been hailed as a success by VCIA president Kevin Mead.

Mead wrote in a special blog about the event that the VCIA’s roadshows continue to be a great way to meet members where they are and to also expand the knowledge of captives and Vermont as the world’s-leading domicile.

Describing the event Mead said that: “Leading off, was an introduction to captives with a panel led by the DED’s Brittany Nevins and consisting of the DFR’s Christine Brown and Sandy Bigglestone, with our hosts WTW’s Ed Koral and Jason Palmer from WTW. Shout out to Ed, who provided a great analogy for a captive…it’s like a pick up truck that can be used in many different ways!

“Following this, was a session with captive owners Julie Bordo and Liz Venhuizen. There could not be two more diverse businesses than the ones that these two leaders represent (ready-mix concrete & care homes!), and so their diverse experiences made for a lively discussion about captives, Vermont and the nature of risk.  The use of technology, and the parsing of data to make better risk decisions also came up, and led to a number of questions both in the session and at the reception afterwards. I sense this is only the beginning and VCIA and the industry will be having many more conversations on how AI, cyber, and tech are shaping the industry and impacting what it means to be in risk management itself.”

The next VCIA roadshow will be in Vermont in 2024. The VCIA will announce more information on the event when it becomes available.
