SUNDAY’S RESULT: Detroit Tigers’ flubs hand finale, series to Tampa Bay Rays, 10-6
Tigers lineup: TBA.
Game notes: The Tigers continue their homestand with a visit from the AL-Central leading Minnesota Twins. For the first game of the series, the Twins will have right-hander Pablo López on the mound, who has been solid since giving up seven runs against the Oakland Athletics on July 15.
Over his past three starts, López has allowed only five total runs over the course of 18 innings. That included a one-run, zero-walk performance last time out against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Meanwhile, the Tigers will be starting Joey Wentz, who has just one appearance with the Tigers since June 29, when he was sent down to Triple-A Toledo. He was recalled exactly a month later and pitched against the Miami Marlins. Wentz fared OK in a bulk-relief role, allowing four hits but zero runs in 4⅔ innings. Wentz has struggled mightily with the Tigers this year, but Detroit fans will certainly hope that he has turned a new leaf.
