For the first round of “group play,” all 30 NBA teams were divided into groups of five — three teams per conference. Each team plays one game against each opponent in its group, two games at home and two games away. These games will be played on “Tournament Nights” which will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays from November 3rd to 28th.

The elimination round, which takes place in December, will feature eight teams – the top six teams from each group and two “wild card” teams, which will be the one remaining team from each conference that finished with the best “group play” record. . If two or more teams are tied during group play, a tiebreaker series will be held based on points difference, total points earned, and more. The single-elimination round includes four quarterfinal games on Dec. 4 and 5, a neutral-site semifinal on Dec. 7 and the championship on Dec. 9 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

With the exception of the championship round, every intraseason tournament game also counts as a regular season game. The teams that fall short of the playoffs will each play two regular season games on December 6th and 8th.

There is a prize pool – every player on the team that qualifies for the playoffs will win. Players on the winning team will win $500,000 each and the losing team will win $200,000 each. Players who lose in the semifinals will receive $100,000 and the losers of the semifinals will receive $50,000. The winning team will also receive the NBA trophy, and there will be a season tournament MVP and an all-tournament team.
