Penn wins team title, Saint Joseph’s Marley Dunham individual medalist at NIC championship

PLYMOUTH – Another year, another Northern Indiana Conference title for Penn girls golf team.

The Kingsmen shot a 334 at Pretty Lake Golf Course Saturday to win the team championship over runner-up South Bend Saint Joseph by 24 shots. It is the fifth straight NIC title for Penn and 21st in the last 23 years.

Four Kingsmen players finished in the top seven. Sophomore Scarlett Biever was second with a 79, senior Delaney Wade third with an 81, senior Jill Daniels fifth with an 86 and sophomore Claire Tobin seventh with an 88. Penn’s fifth player, Lily Norris, shot a 95.

While Saint Joe fell short of the team title, it did net the individual medalist Marley Dunham. The sophomore shot a 77, edging Biever by two strokes for the championship. Other top-10 performers for Saint Joseph were Sydney Schmeltz (ninth, 92) and Reese Hull (10th, 94).

Rounding out the top 10 was Glenn junior Bri Wolff, who finished fourth with an 86, earning the spot over Daniels by virtue of a tiebreaker. New Prairie’s Jenna Bauman finished sixth with an 87, while South Bend Adams senior Katherine Swain tied for eighth with a 91.
