Marinho Peres, former coach of V. Guimarães, Belenenses, Sporting and Marítimo, has died at the age of 76. The death was announced by the former coach’s wife, Mazé Marinho, via social media.
Mario Peres Ulibarri, better known as Marinho Peres, was born in Brazil in 1947 and spent practically his entire football career in Brazil, at various clubs, with the exception of a spell at Barcelona in 1974/75, having also represented the Canarian national team in 15 occasions. However, the notoriety he achieved in Portugal comes from his career as a coach in our country, where he arrived in 1986 to guide V. Guimarães for a season. This was followed by spells on three different occasions at Belenenses, the club where he gained legendary status and with whom he won the Portuguese Cup in 1989. He also coached Sporting and Marítimo.
To the bereaved family, Record offers heartfelt condolences.
