LedgeRock Golf Club’s Josh Anderson qualifies for US Mid-Amateur

August 15—Josh Andersen of LedgeRock Golf Club shot a 4-under 68 to finish second in Monday’s U.S. Mid-Amateur qualifier at Whitford Country Club in Exton and earn a spot in next month’s event.

The 42nd US Mid-Amateur will be held 9-14 September at Sleepy Hollow CC in Scarborough, NY

Andy Butler won Monday’s tournament with a 7-under 65. The top five qualified.

Anderson, the 2020 Berks Amateur champion who teed off on No. 10, birdied three of his last four holes.

He qualified for the US Mid-Am for the third time after also making it in 2011 and 2015.

“I’m looking forward to it,” Anderson said via a release from the Golf Association of Philadelphia, which administered the event. “Yesterday I wanted to play to warm up and (my son, Dean) didn’t want to play so we went bowling instead. I managed to hit golf balls for 30 minutes. Guess that was all I needed.”

Anderson, 43, who lives in Morgantown, hit a gap wedge from 120 yards to within 3 feet of the hole on the par-4 sixth for the first of his closing birdies. On the par-4 seventh, he hit a true wedge from 110 yards to within 4 feet. On the par-5 ninth, he had a true wedge from 90 yards to 4 feet.

“Relatively stress-free coming in, I think,” Anderson said.

He opened with a bogey on No. 10, but made birdies on 12 and 15 to make the turn at 1-under.
