Miquel Iceta: “The Government will get involved so that the Federation allows female soccer players to play”
The Minister of Culture and Sports, Miquel Iceta, assured this Tuesday that “the Government is not going to be passive, neither in expectation, nor as a spectator” in the face of the conflict between the players of the senior national team and the Spanish Football Federation ( RFEF), and explained that “the president of the CSD” (Víctor Francos) will be personally involved in this.
“The Royal Spanish Football Federation is doing things very badly, I think it is clear enough, I think that the call is anomalous and that we must correct the defects that have occurred if we really want to recover the path of success that the players marked and that had its climax in Sydney,” he said in Congress, before the start of the plenary session this Tuesday.
After the players maintained their desire last night not to be called up, despite being included in the call of the new coach, Montse Tomé, for the Nations League matches against Sweden and Switzerland on the 22nd and 26th, Iceta stated that “the Government is not going to be passive, neither waiting nor as a spectator.”
“The president of the CSD (Superior Sports Council, Víctor Francos) will get involved and will do so personally,” said Iceta, who showed his confidence in the RFEF “to do things well and allow the players to play and win.”
The minister also insisted that “what the Government can do is what it is doing, which is to express itself strongly publicly and of course always act with the will to find agreements between the parties, which are currently in conflict.”
He also recalled that “the situation of the Federation is absolutely provisional and that it must give way to a definitive situation with the election of the federative bodies”, something that Iceta thinks “must occur as soon as possible and with the more security the better.”
