Here are some notes about Josh HartSuffix with Knicks:

There are no performance bonuses in Hart’s $81 million extension, according to SNY sources. The first three years are fully guaranteed for a total of about $59 million. That means Hart will make an average of $19 million per season over the first three years of the extension.

Sources confirm the fourth and final season of Hart’s extension is a team option.

If you include his 2023-24 season, Hart is under contract for $94 million over the next five seasons. During that time, he will have roughly $72 million in guaranteed money over the next four seasons.

fair value?

You might see the Hart deal and feel some sticker shock. But the $20 million annual salary in today’s league is a lot different than it was five years ago.

Hart’s contract does not exceed 14% of the salary cap in any season ESPN’s Bobby Marks notes. Hart’s highest contract cap percentage is 13.7% in the final season of the extension, per Mark. That year, Hart would earn $22.5 million. As The Athletic first reported, the final season is also a team option.

Some other areas worth noting: Hart’s average annual salary between contracts/extensions signed by Dillon Brooks in Houston ($21.5 million) and Caris LeVert Cleveland ($16 million) this summer. It would be the sixth of the wings to sign new contracts/extensions this summer SpotracDatabase

In my opinion, Hart’s contract will be judged on his own health/availability and the Knicks’ success over the next five seasons. Will Hart significantly increase his production in any area now that he has signed a significant extension? It’s possible, but I’m not counting on it.

If you’re a Knicks fan, you’ll want him to make gradual improvements in all aspects of his game, including his perimeter shooting.

But if Hart – who was represented by the team boss Leon Rose In the CAA before Rose joined the Knicks — still playing at the same level he created last season — a contract extension would be a solid deal for Hart and the Knicks.

Hart had an undeniable impact on last season’s victory. He defended and rebounded at a high level and was an important part of New York’s offense.

Of course, if Hart underperforms over the next five seasons, the Knicks will be rightly criticized for this deal.
