According to the Brazilian press, the causes of death were not disclosed. Her death was announced by her sister, Mazé Peres Ulibarri Pistelli, in a post on Facebook.
Born in Brazil on March 19, 1947, Marinho Peres coached several clubs in Portugal, including Vitória de Guimarães, Belenenses, Sporting, where he played for Luís Figo, and Marítimo.
In the first of two spells at Belenenses, in 1988/89, Marinho Peres managed to win the Portuguese Cup, beating Benfica 2-1 in the final.
In Brazil, the coach was in charge of historic clubs, with Botafogo and Santos, a team he also represented as a player between 1972 and 1974, with King Pelé, Carlos Alberto Torres and Edu as teammates.
Marinho Peres, who played as a central defender, played for Barcelona (1974/75), where he was a teammate of Johan Cruijff, but ended up returning to Brazil after being ordered to carry out military service in Spain, his parents’ home country. He also represented Portuguesa, Internacional and Palmeiras.
Marinho Peres was capped by Brazil on 15 occasions – he scored one goal -, having captained the Canarian team that participated in the 1974 World Cup, in which they finished fourth.
