Bishop Kenny senior Emily Wheldon is the Florida Times-Union’s first Florida Credit Union Athlete of the Week for the 2023-24 high school season, covering the week of 21-26. August in the Jacksonville area.
The senior set a personal best in girls cross country, running 19:22 to lead Bishop Kenny to the team championship at the Cecil Field Summer Classic.
She placed first in a poll of Northeast Florida’s top performers, which included Octavius Barnes (Baldwin soccer), Sadaly Campbell (Fernandina Beach girls golf), Adriana Jeanpierre (Beachside volleyball), Tyler Mawhinney (Fleming Island boys golf), Myles Simmons (St. Augustine football) and Miles Wicks (Ponte Vedra boys cross country).

The Times-Union compiles nominees from scores, statistics and nominations emailed to the sports desk during the week by Northeast Florida coaches. Coaches can email these stats and results to preps@jacksonville.com.
This week’s voting begins on Tuesday morning and ends on Friday at 10:00 a.m. Votes are limited to once per unit per hour.

Rauly Eason, Fleming Island Volleyball
The senior outside hitter recorded 24 kills with a .677 hitting percentage in the Golden Eagles’ sweeps of Christ’s Church and Bradford.
Connor Guy, Keystone Heights Boys Golf
The multisport athlete was medalist with a 37, leading Keystone past St. John’s Country Day and Ridgeview in a golf tri-match at Keystone Heights Golf Club.
Jamal Harvey-Jackson, Riverside football
The senior edge rusher recorded three sacks and 11 tackles to lead the Generals past Parker 33-0, the second straight shutout for Riverside’s defense.
Alyson Johnson, Creekside girls cross country
The Knights’ sophomore broke her personal best to run 18:15 at the Florida Horse Park Invitational, beating the field by more than 50 seconds for the individual title.
Jaylen Pettway, white football
The senior quarterback passed for three touchdowns and rushed for another, completing 17 of 23 passes for 292 yards passing and 53 rushing to lead the Commanders past Sandalwood 26-6.
Matt Ryan, Nease boys cross country
The senior ran 16:03 to lead the Panthers to first place with a perfect team score (15 points) in the Bob Hans Invitational at Ridgeview.
Emma Wells, Providence girls golf
The senior medaled with a 37 at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club, leading the Stallions to a season-opening win over Episcopal.
