Portuguese striker for Atletico Madrid Joao Felix (l) agreed to join Barcelona On loan until the end of the season (Javier Soriano)
Barcelona announced today, Friday, the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix on loan until the end of the season.
“Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement regarding the loan of the player Joao Felix until June 30, 2024. There is no option to buy,” the Catalan club said in a statement.
Barcelona loan winger Ansu Fati to Brighton and cannons Clement Lenglet to Aston Villa earlier on Friday to help make room for Felix’s accommodation in regards to the wage bill and the player’s registration in La Liga, which has strict Financial Fair Play rules.
Felix became the fifth most expensive player in history when Atletico Madrid signed him from Benfica in 2019 for 126 million euros ($136 million) when he was only 19 years old.
The 23-year-old Portuguese striker failed to find consistent form in the Spanish capital and was loaned out by Atletico Madrid Chelsea Last season, where he also struggled.
Felix has spoken about his desire to play for Barcelona in the past.
Barcelona added, “The club publicly expresses its gratitude to the player for the financial effort he made (to join) and for his desire to wear the Barcelona shirt.”
Barcelona is also close to signing a right-back Joao Cancelo on loan from Manchester cityAccording to Spanish reports.
Cancelo, 29, lost his fortune in Manchester City last season, to join Bayern Munich On loan in January.
The Portugal international has been pivotal to City boss Pep Guardiola in previous years, playing an important part in two Premier League victories.
Cancelo signed a five-year contract with City in February 2022, but less than a year later Guardiola sent him to Bayern.
