Area golf and tennis teams open their seasons




Fairfield Union: Fairfield Union Varsity boys golf team finished one shot out of first place at Crown Hill in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Division tournament with a score of 335. Isaiah DeLong was the team’s low scorer and co-medalist with an 80. He was followed by Ty Fisher 81, Elijah Reed 82, Caleb Boyer 92, Bryce Lepi 95 and Case Cross 99.

Fairfield Union hosted the Lady Falcon Invitational last week at Pumpkin Vine Golf Course. Sheridan finished first with a score of 356 followed by Circleville with 359. Addy Burris from John Glenn was the medalist with 68. Elaina Seeley was runner-up with 69.

Fairfield Union’s Lauren Mason and Kelsey Hawkins competed in their first golf invitational and fired 132 and 136.

The varsity boys competed in the Viking Tee-Off at Franklin Valley on Aug. 4 and finished second with a 318. Isaiah Delong led the Falcons with 77, Ty Fisher 78, Caleb Boyer 81, Elijah Reed 82, Dylan Chilicote 91 and Bryce Lepi 93.

Lancaster: The Golden Gales shot a 363 in the first round of the Ohio Capital Conference-Ohio Division held at Apple Valley Golf Course, and finished in fourth place behind Reynoldsburg, Newark and Pickerington Central. Leading the Gales was Gabe Betts with an 82. Zane Brengman shot an 88, Jacob Miller 91, Camden Campbell 102, and Ben Richardson 105.

The Gales competed in the Mount Vernon Invitational at Chapel Hill Golf Course to open the season. The Gales shot a 361. Leading the Gales was Sophomore Gabe Betts who shot a career-low 79. Sophomore Jacob Miller shot a 92, junior Zane Brengman 93, junior Camden Campbell a 97, and freshman Ben Richardson 116.


Hilliard Bradley 3, Lancaster 2: The Lady Gales fell short in the non-conference match against the Jaguars.

At No. 1 singles, Kinley Baer lost 4-6, 7-6, 7-6, at No. 2 singles, Andi Green won 6-4, 6-3 and at No. 3 singles, Kaylee Akers won 6-3, 6-4. At No. 1 doubles, Olivia Faz and Chelsie Hoffman lost 6-2, 6-1 and at No. 2 doubles, Tori Wellington and Addy Brown lost 4-6, 7-6, 7-6.
