This will lead to an even greater increase in the number which has also seen fees to brokers rise by 400% over the past decade.
While the focus was understandably on how Premier League £2.1 billion was spent in this window and Saudi Professional League £728m, with the English competition surpassing the £1.87bn total spent by the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Ligue 1 put together, a good portion of which was going to agents.
The total amount generated by 684 international transfers between 1 June and 1 September 2022 was $494.4 million, an increase of 14.1% over the same period in 2021. This amount is set to rise.
It also comes amid research showing ten times more money going to agents than to popular clubs.
