34 players who are locked up to be part of the Rams’ starting 53-man roster

He Los Angeles Rams There’s still one more preseason game to go, but you can bet that Sean McVay, Les Snead and the rest of the think tank have been closely evaluating the roster and designing their starting 53-man roster for weeks. They know which players are locked in to make it and which ones have work to do to secure a spot on the regular-season roster.

As inexperienced as this team is, the Rams still have several players who already clinched roster spots this summer. These 34 players are almost guaranteed to make the team barring something dramatic like injury or an unexpected trade.

Assuming these 32 players are locked up, that leaves the Rams with just 19 other roster spots to settle, which isn’t much.

Matthew Stafford
Stetson Bennett

There are no surprises here. Even if Bennett goes 0-for-20 in the final preseason game, the Rams aren’t going to cut the rookie in the fourth round. He’ll be on the 53-man roster, it’s just a matter of whether he’s Stafford’s backup or the number 3 behind. Brett Rypien.

I like to say zach evans It’s a rookie block, but that’s not for sure. He has not stood out significantly this preseason and Ronnie Rios He is clearly ahead of him on the depth chart. Evans will likely still make it, but if the Rams like it Royce Freeman Also, Evans could be on the outside looking in.

Ben Skowronek It was not an accidental omission. We just can’t say he’s as safe to make the team as the other four receivers are, even if there’s about a 95% chance he’ll stay on the 53-man roster. He has had more playing time than expected this preseason and could be competing with demarcus robinson and tyler johnson for one of the last places on the list.

I still think he’ll make it, but given his preseason playing time, I can’t say he’s locked in yet.

Hopkins hasn’t been involved in any preseason snaps and has been called a bright spot in training camp this summer, so he’s a sure thing. And while Allen has just returned to the field, he too will be making the team after showing his potential in the second preseason game.

Hunter Long is the wild card because he remains on the cub list with no timeline to return. He should still make the team and then potentially go on the disabled list if he doesn’t recover, but he’s got work to do.

Rob Havenstein

Havenstein and Jackson are expected to be the starting tackles for the Rams, so they’re a lock to make the team. AJ Arcuri and Warren McClendon Jr. aren’t there yet, but the latter should also make the 53-man roster as a rookie.

Logan Bruss‘The name is conspicuously absent here. While I hope he makes the team, he is now dealing with an ankle injury and has struggled a lot for the second straight offseason. It could be a surprise cut this year.

Coleman Shelton

Avila and Anchrum should be the Rams’ Week 1 starters at guard unless Noteboom does enough to get past Anchrum at right guard. Allen and Shelton are still battling it out in the center, with no clear signs of who is leading that contest.

Either way, these should be the Rams’ top five interior players in Week 1, with plenty of positional flexibility throughout the group.

Good luck figuring out the Rams’ defensive line. However, in my opinion, Donald and Turner are the only two players guaranteed to make the 53-man roster. Marchioness CopelandEarnest Brown IV. Bobby Brown II and Jonas Williams They are all close to that state too. desjuan johnson He also needs to impress in this final week.

It’s just hard to get a sense of how the Rams view this unit because everyone except Donald is getting playing time in the preseason and no one is really shining that bright.

I almost left Heocht’s name off this list because he still gets preseason snaps, which isn’t always a good sign for a projected starter. But the Rams just don’t have enough outside linebacker talent to take out the only guy who’s actually sacked a quarterback in an actual NFL game.

Christian Rozeboom he’s all but locked up and is projected to be the Rams’ No. 2 linebacker alongside Jones. After, Jake Hummel He is expected to be the third linebacker, and possibly the last.

If the Rams go with more than three, it will be because of special teams value and emergency depth in the middle.

It’s hard to imagine the Rams cutting robert rochell but it’s also not yet in the “blocking” category. Shaun Jolly He also has a good chance of making the team, depending on how he plays this week; he could back Durant for the job.

The cornerback group is close to being formed with a week to go and, as young as it is, there is potential thanks to the arrival of Witherspoon.

Johnson’s signing will not prevent Yeast or Lake from being part of the 53-man roster this season. Both have played well in camp and preseason. Jason Taylor IIdespite being a draft pick, he is not safe to make the team, especially after missing the second preseason game.

This is not a terribly difficult position group to understand. They should keep five, but it is also possible to keep four.

Alex Ward

It’s hard to imagine the Rams signing a punter, kicker or long snapper before the final cuts are made and keeping him over one of three rookie specialists they already have.

That doesn’t mean they won’t claim someone who gets cut by another team next week, but they will have to keep Evans, Brown and Ward on their starting 53-man roster before doing so.
