It’s not an easy task to make a shortlist of only 10 best badminton players out of so many legendary players in the world.

Nonetheless, I’m not going to sit on the fence here.

In this article, I’m going to shortlist my favorite top ten players and present a brief of their career. And check here for top badminton racquets list.

10 Best Badminton Players – A Brief About Them

1.Lee Chong Wei

Born – 21st October 1982

Country of Origin – Malaysia

Last Played – 13th June 2019

Lee Chong Wei is the number one badminton player on my list. I firmly believe he deserves this spot, and his stat is proving me right too.

In his glorious career, he won 69 titles. He won a total of 739 matches and lost only 135 matches.

He was a right-handed player and the only Malaysian player who was in world number one rank for more than a year.

Lee Chong Wei also won three silver medals in the Olympic event.

2. Lin Dan

Born – 14th October 1983

Country of Origin – China

Last Played – Still playing (as of 4th April 2020)

Lin Dan is another living legend in badminton history, who is still dominating the court when I’m writing this post.

He has all the stats backing up his spot here on my list of top ten badminton players.

Lin Dan is a left-handed player who has won a total of 66 titles in his career. He has 665 wins against only 128 losses.

Lin Dan is two times gold medal winner of the Olympic event and several other tournaments, including world championship, world cup, Thomas cup, etc.

3. Taufik Hidayat

Born – 10th August 1981

Country of Origin – Indonesia

Last Played – 2013

Taufik Hidayat is another superb badminton player who has won a gold medal in the Olympic event.

Besides the Olympic event, he also won the Indonesian open several times. World Championships, Thomas Cup, Asian Games, Asian Championships are some of the tournaments where he put his mark with pride too.

This right-handed living legend has won 413 matches and lost only 138 matches in his career.

4. Kento Momota

Born – 1st September 1994

Country of Origin – Japan

Last Played – Still playing (as of 4th April 2020)

Kento Momota is a left-handed badminton player who has been dominating the court for years now and still playing.

So far, he has won a total of 335 matches and counting. He lost only 78 matches so far. This stat undoubtedly justifies his position on this list.

Not to mention, he also made his mark at several international events like World Championships, Thomas Cup, Asian Championships, etc.

5. Chen Long

Born – 18th January 1989

Country of Origin – China

Last Played – Still playing (as of 4th April 2020)

Chen Long is a right-handed Chinese legendary badminton player who has got several achievements in his career, including a gold medal in the Olympic event.

Apart from the Olympic event, he also won twice in World Championships, thrice in Thomas cup, twice in Asian games, five times in Sudirman cup.

In his career, Chen Long won a total of 439 matches so far. Whereas, he lost only 113 matches.

6. Wang Yihan

Born – 18th January 1988

Country of Origin – China

Last Played – 2016

Wang Yihan, the Chinese female badminton player who has been the idol of so many other female players, had a remarkable career, no doubt.

She was a right-handed player who won 368 matches in total while having only 91 defeats.

Wang Yihan won a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympic event. She also won titles at world championships, world cup, Sudirman cup, etc.

7. Carolina Marin

Born – 15th June 1993

Country of Origin – Spain

Last Played – 2016 Still playing (as of 4th April 2020)

Carolina Marin is a Spanish gem in the badminton world who is still at her young age.

She is a left-handed player having an excellent track record already in different tournaments, including the Olympic event.

Carolina is a gold medalist in the Olympic event. She won several other titles in world championships, European championships, etc.

So far, she won 381 matches in total and lost in only 112 games.

8. Gao Ling

Born – 14th March 1979

Country of Origin – China

Last Played – 23rd November 2008

Gao Ling is such a legendary player on my list who has an excellent track record as well.

This right-handed lady has won 247 matches in total. Whereas, she lost in only 55 matches. How good is that?

She won two gold medals in the Olympic event. Yes, of course, she made her mark at other tournaments like World Championships, World cup, Sudirman cup, etc.

9. Tony Gunawan

Born – 9th April 1975

Country of Origin – Indonesia

Last Played – 2001

Tony Gunawan is the oldest badminton player on my list who used to represent Indonesia from 1992 to 2001. From 2001 he has been serving the USA as a coach.

This right-handed badminton legend has won one gold medal in the Olympic event. He also has several successes in World Championships, Thomas Cup, Asian Games, Asian Championship, etc.

10. Srikanth Kidambi

Born – 7th February 1993

Country of Origin – India

Last Played – Still playing (as of 4th April 2020)

Srikanth Kidambi is another famous badminton player in the world.

Notably, any Indian knows him as he is one of the greatest players from India who earned the world number one position in 2018.

Kidambi won a total of 236 singles and lost only 124 matches.

This right-handed player is the one-time gold medalist of Commonwealth games, and three times gold medalist of South Asian games.

Final Words

So, this is it.

I know several other excellent players like Viktor Axelsen, Jan O Jorgensen, and Chou Tien have all the right to earn a spot on any top list.

But I had to pick only ten based on my preference, their statistical data, and their way of playing.
