Paulo Fonseca even appealed to Portuguese clubs, namely Benfica and Braga, so that they would not do business with Russian clubsbut that didn’t stop the Minho club from transfer Tormena to Krasnodar.

“I think that football cannot be separated from the war in Ukraine. If the European Union adopts sanctions against an aggressor country, if most companies comply with the regulations, football cannot be any different. For me It’s difficult to understand that someone maintains relationships as if nothing were happening”, he commented, in an interview with O JOGO.

“It was particularly difficult for me to see Portuguese clubs indifferent to the problem. I really like Braga, but I was disappointed with this deal. It doesn’t change my relationship with the club but there are more important things in life than money”, he said.

Chiquinho, Benfica’s midfielder, was appointed to Russian football, but remained under the orders of Roger Schmidt at Benfica.
